About Hilton Head
Hilton Head Island offers some of the most beautiful beaches in the United States. Comprising over 14 miles of sand, the beaches of Hilton Head are perfect for all ages, making them a favorite location for families and those who simply want to relax and unwind.
Hilton Head beaches offer fine and compact sand, making them ideal for runners and bikers alike. It’s not unusual to see a bicyclist below the mid-tide line enjoying a leisurely ride in the sun. The cool, salty breeze off the water makes for a wonderful ride along the entire length of the island.
Perhaps the most historic Hilton Head beach is in Port Royal Plantation. It was here in 1861 that the Battle of Port Royal occurred at the start of the Civil War. Over 13,000 Union troops came ashore and established control of the island.
Some of the best island shopping is accessible from Sea Pines Beach Club in Sea Pines Plantation. From the Beach Club, a trolley can be taken to Harbor Town. Harbor Town is one of the island’s most popular locations for shopping, sightseeing, water sport rentals, and restaurants.
Hilton Head Island is comprised of numerous plantations. Beach access is restricted primarily to residents of these plantations, but Hilton Head does have four public beaches that have their own entrances with pay parking. These beaches are Adler Lane, Burke’s Beach, Coligny Beach, and Dreissen Beach Park (also known as Singleton Beach).
From sun and sand to history, shopping, and fine food, Hilton Head’s beaches offer something for the entire family.
