Hilton Head Island is never lacking for things to do. During the peak season, numerous special events can be enjoyed throughout the island.
In May of each year, Hilton Head hosts the Hilton Head Triathlon. The triathlon consists of a 500 meter swim, 12 1/2 mile bike ride, and 3.1 mile run and is participated by hundreds of athletes from across the United States. The triathlon begins at Coligny beach and participant ages range from 13 to 72 years of age, which makes it a wonderful family event.
In June, Sea Pines plantation hosts the MCI Heritage PGA Tour golf tournament. The MCI Heritage attracts thousands of golf enthusiasts from around the world and raises millions of dollars for charity. The tour is participated by some of the greatest players in the professional golfing community.
Shelter Cove presents the annual Hilton Head Arts Festival, which features some of the country's leading artists. These artists, along with popular local talent, present a stunning array of creativity. The Hilton Head Arts Festival has been lauded as one of the country's top art shows.
A favorite of locals and vacationers alike is Shelter Cove's Tuesday evening fireworks, which occurs weekly during the tourist season. A tradition for a number of years, the fireworks are launched from Broad Creek and best enjoyed at Shelter Cover, which is an epicenter of shopping and fine dining.
Also at Shelter Cove is what many refer to as the Cove's signature summer event, Harbourfest. From June to August, Harbourfest features live musical entertainment seven nights a week from a small amphitheater in the center of the Cove. The location couldn't be better, surrounded by fine dining and shopping, it's a fantastic nightly event for the entire family.
